This week, The Wolfpacker hosted former Clemson lineman and now ACC Network analyst Eric Mac Lain to discuss NC State football, among other topics. Mac Lain is also the co-host with Kelly Gramlich of the Gramlich & Mac Lain podcast that had NC State football head coach Dave Doeren as a guest in an episode released last week.

Among the topics that Mac Lain discussed with host Matt Carter:

• Mac Lain’s impressions from observing a NC State football practice in person in August. Mac Lain was part of the ACC Network crew that saw about half of the league teams up close. How did NC State stack up, and what was his overall feeling about the Wolfpack?

• Why Mac Lain feels that the key to the upcoming season may come down to health, and what two other areas on the team he has some questions about going into the 2022 kickoff at East Carolina on Sept. 3.

• Speaking of ECU, are there any concerns on Mac Lain’s part? The Fayetteville native is well familiar with the passion of the Pirates.

• Part of that discussion includes answering whether or not NC State could be this year’s North Carolina — the preseason overhyped media darling that falls flat during the year. UNC a year ago was top-10 in the initial polls but finished with a losing record at 6-7.

Mac Lain explains why he does not think that is a good comparison for NC State in 2022, contrasting the differences between last year’s Tar Heels squad and this year’s edition for the Wolfpack.

• What national power is the only one in the country to whom Mac Lain thinks matches up with the linebacker corps that NC State can put on the field this fall.

• What the possibilities of the atmosphere in Death Valley could be on Oct. 1 when NC State travels to Clemson, and why Mac Lain may have to potentially miss that game for very valid personal reasons.

• Which two teams in the ACC, both of them in the same Atlantic Division as NC State, are wildcards in the league this year, squads that Mac Lain admits he has no idea how their season could play out?

• A bold proclamation on the ceiling of the 2022 NC State football team.

• That and so much more can be heard in our podcast!
