The Wolfpacker Podcast: NC State vs. Virginia Tech preview
After a much-needed off week, NC State football (5-2 overall, 1-2 ACC) is preparing for the first of three consecutive home games. The No. 23/24-ranked Wolfpack hosts Virginia Tech for a Thursday night game at Carter-Finley Stadium. Like the Pack, the Hokies are coming off a bye week, and the Hokies also probably needed it. VT is 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the ACC. The game will be televised on ESPN and kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
With host Justin H. Williams, The Wolfpacker‘s Matt Carter dive into the NC State-Virginia Tech game from multiple angles in our weekly opponent preview podcast episode, which can be seen and heard below.

Among the many topics discussed:
• The Wolfpacker begins with the weekly “Upon Further Review” segment and takes one last look at the bye week following a 24-9 loss at Syracuse. That included a look at how the Orange put a scare into Clemson last Saturday, and why comparing some numbers at the quarterback position in those two respective games may provide a sliver of optimism for the Wolfpack going forward.
• How the Wolfpack schedule in the lead-up to the bye might be altering our perspective somewhat of the ineffectiveness of the offense and more notably the potential for NC State football in the final five games of the season.
• Why Virginia Tech may actually be a good match-up on paper, considering how NC State’s winning formula thus far in 2022 against respectable opponents has been lower-scoring affairs that relies on defense and special teams.
Turns out, that may also be how Virginia Tech views their best chances of getting a win.
• Why the one most potentially noticeable weakness of the Virginia Tech defense could also be beneficial for NC State’s chances of maximizing the points total Thursday evening in Carter-Finley Stadium.
• Matt goes into detail over his official prediction, which can be found here. Click on the link to read his co-worker Ethan McDowell’s pick.
