The Wolfpacker Podcast: NC State vs. Virginia Tech reflections
The NC State football team inched forward in the two respective top 25 polls despite needing to rally from 21-3 down at home to two-win Virginia Tech last Thursday evening in Raleigh at Carter-Finley Stadium. The dramatic comeback led to a 22-21 victory that improved the Wolfpack to 6-2 overall and evened the ACC record to 2-2 in league games. The Hokies meanwhile fell to 2-6 and will need to win out to avoid a losing record during the regular season under first-year head coach Brent Pry.
With host Justin H. Williams, The Wolfpacker’s Matt Carter dive into the NC State-Virginia Tech game from multiple angles in our weekly Postgame Reflections podcast episode, which can be seen and heard below.
Among the many topics discussed during the recording of the podcast:
• How the game featured a lot of low moments before a dominating final 20 minutes to secure the win. Host Justin noted that the contest had a little bit of everything for NC State, while Matt broke down just how dominant the ending turned out to be.
• Will NC State try to play some gamesmanship with the depth chart on Monday or state the obvious, which is that freshman MJ Morris will be the third different starting quarterback this season for the Wolfpack?
The duo break down Morris’ passing performance, and how he may have helped the offense open up after seemingly being overly conservative and cautious.
• A look at what is still ahead for NC State, and why for the second year in a row, the Wolfpack is playing meaningful football games in the month of November. Although the ACC title is off the table, there is the potential for history and a major bowl game in the future if things fall in the Pack’s favor, which starts next Saturday with a home date vs. Wake Forest.
• Why the NC State football coaches are likely to be quick to disregard what happened to Wake Forest in a lopsided loss at Louisville Saturday.
