The Wolfpacker Show: Answering 5 key questions about NC State football

By Noah Fleischman

NC State’s fall camp slate is nearing the end ahead of the Wolfpack’s season opener against Western Carolina on Aug. 29 at Carter-Finley Stadium. With kickoff a week away, The Wolfpacker Show returned to talk about five big questions at this point of the ramp up period going into the 2024 season.

In this episode, the hosts discussed:

– The first question is who has been the biggest surprise of fall camp to this point? Noah went with a choice on offense, a skill position player, while Ethan elected to pick a defensive player to talk about early in the show.

– Then, the topic of conversation flipped to an underrated player that each host thought will be on an All-ACC team at the end of the season. NC State sophomore wide receiver Kevin “KC” Concepcion and graduate cornerback Aydan White were off limits since they made the preseason team, so Ethan and Noah went outside the box with their choices.

– NC State’s left guard competition was also a question posed on the show. The Wolfpack has redshirt juniors Anthony Carter Jr. and Matt McCabe pushing for the starting spot, a battle to watch.

– Carter is the incumbent with 819 game snaps (11 games at left guard, two games at right guard) a year ago, while McCabe has played 34 total snaps in his Wolfpack career.

– After the hosts broke down the competition — and picked who they thought was going to win the battle — the conversation moved to one of the biggest topics of the year: How can NC State make the College Football Playoff?

– The Wolfpack has its sights set on a College Football Playoff spot this year, and the hosts discussed the various ways NC State could make its way to the 12-team bracket. While there appears to be a few options to get there, the hosts agreed winning the ACC Championship was the most likely way the Pack could earn an invite.

– To close the show, Ethan and Noah talked about what a successful season would look like for NC State. First, they projected what a “successful year” would be defined as in the eyes of the program before giving their own viewpoint on the subject.
