Grayson McCall is officially running with the Pack. The top priority transfer portal quarterback announced Wednesday that he is committed to NC State.

He is the program’s first signal-caller portal addition of this cycle and the third in three years after the program welcomed Jack Chambers and Brennan Armstrong to the Wolfpack for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. McCall’s commitment propelled the program up to No. 9 in On3’s national transfer rankings.

During his Coastal Carolina career, the quarterback threw for 10,005 yards, 88 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. McCall also added 1,113 yards on the ground and 18 more scores. He missed the final 5 games of the 2023 season due to injury and finished the year with 10 touchdowns, a career-high 6 interceptions and 1,919 passing yards.

McCall is the only three-time Sun Belt player of the year in the conference’s football history. The graduate student signal-caller is the fourth transfer commit of the past week, joining Wake Forest wide receiver Wesley Grimes, Notre Dame center Zeke Correll and Missouri offensive tackle Valen Erickson.

Per TheWolfpacker.com’s count, NC State’s roster now holds 79 scholarships for the 2024 season, and the program is nowhere close to done recruiting the portal. The Pack plans on welcoming double-digit visitors to campus this week.

Ethan McDowell is in South Carolina reporting on the Shrine Bowl, but The Wolfpacker Show taped an emergency episode Wednesday afternoon.

Noah Fleischman and Ethan talked about:

*** Their impressions of McCall and how his transfer decision impacts the program’s 2024 outlook. Both hosts agreed that his commitment is not only a solid addition from a priority commit, but it also raises NC State’s ceiling for next fall.

*** Ethan and Noah also drew out McCall’s commitment timeline. The graduate transfer quarterback hit the portal after his decorated Coastal Carolina career and quickly locked in on two schools. He took official visits to NC State and UCF last week before eventually committing to the Pack.

*** Noah, who spent a couple of years covering the Sun Belt Conference, broke down the quarterback commit’s strengths and discussed what he will add to NC State’s offense.

*** To wrap up the show, the hosts talked through a huge visit weekend on the Wolfpack’s horizon. They each shared their favorite remaining prospect in the transfer portal and explained why they would be such a huge addition to the program. Noah mentioned a key running back, while Ethan talked about a key defensive back.

All of those topics and more were discussed on Wednesday’s show, which is available in audio and video on TheWolfpacker.com’s YouTube channel.
