The Wolfpacker Show: Is CJ Bailey the nation's best freshman QB after Stanford win?
Freshman quarterback CJ Bailey starred for NC State football against Stanford, tossing more touchdowns (3) than incompletions (2) during the authoritative 59-28 win over the Cardinal Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack’s first-year signal-caller continues to elevate his game by the week.
NC State put together nine consecutive scoring drives, did not turn the ball over until the starters left the game, forced a fumble and intercepted a pass that both led to touchdowns on the following possessions. This was the Wolfpack’s most complete performance of the season and, for the second consecutive year, it looks like this program is heating up after a bye week.
To recap the blowout victory, The Wolfpacker Show hosts Ethan McDowell and Noah Fleischman sat down to record another episode, breaking down what they liked about NC State’s performance while also discusing a couple of concerns.
During this episode of The Wolfpacker Show…
*** Noah and Ethan shared their initial thoughts on the win. This game was fun to watch. The offense was clicking at a high level. NC State ran the ball extremely well, which the hosts discussed in-depth. Graduate Jordan Waters broke off the second-longest rush in program history with his 94-yard touchdown.
*** They talked about both sides of the ball but spent a lot of time on Bailey, who now looks like the favorite to receive the coveted freshman All-America quarterback honor this season thanks to his recent electric streak of play. Noah also touted the signal-caller as a potential ACC rookie of the year favorite.

*** NC State’s young core of offensive playmakers also drew praise from the hosts. Redshirt freshman running back Hollywood Smothers and freshman wide receiver Keenan Jackson both played tremendous games Saturday.
*** Switching sides of the ball, Noah and Ethan also broke down an inconsistent day for the defense. They heaped praise on graduate defensive lineman Davin Vann, who continues to wreck games for the Pack. He leads the country with 5 forced fumbles. NC State also struggled against the run in this game, giving up 225 yards on the ground.
*** To wrap up the show, Ethan and Noah handed out game balls to recognize some standout individual performances by the Wolfpack, including an outstanding special teams outing for safety and kick returner DK Kaufman.
