The Wolfpacker Show: Crunch time for NC State
This past weekend was one to cherish for NC State athletics, highlighted by the men’s basketball team prevailing at home over rival North Carolina. Women’s basketball, wrestling and the club hockey team all also scored rivalry wins over the Tar Heels over the weekend.
But with the weekend over, the Wolfpack must move on, especially with the men’s basketball team facing just a couple of weeks before the postseason begins.
TheWolfpacker.com’s Matt Carter and Matt Coe team up for the latest edition of The Wolfpacker Show to discuss crunch time for NC State basketball.
Among the many topics discussed:
• Going deep into the numbers to show why NC State addition Jarkel Joiner should rank among the best transfers, not just in the ACC but in all of college basketball, this season. Coe compared Joiner’s stats to other notable transfer guards across the country and you can see how they stack up.
• A look into how the win Sunday over North Carolina is the latest example of why this NC State team is good at finding different ways to notch victories in manners that have not happened often in the past.
• A deep discussion into the state of the ACC. Carter argues that those who want to argue that North Carolina is a bad team are, perhaps inadvertently, also saying that NC State played a poor game and stole a victory against a bad team Sunday, especially since the Tar Heels were up 6 points with less than 10 minutes left on the Wolfpack.

Coe contended that the negative perception of the league is based on pundits not knowing how to handle a conference when the “blue bloods” UNC and Duke are not at the top of the polls.
Carter noted that if you look closely at the win-loss records against other Power Five conferences, the ACC is not near as bad as some might think.
• Looking perhaps too far ahead of themselves, Carter and Coe talk NCAA Tournament and where the Wolfpack may stand in seedings. Coe also asked if NC State needs to win in Big Dance to have a successful season.
Carter promptly shot that down with points that even Coe acknowledged were good.
• The two ranked the remaining games, home vs. Wake Forest and Clemson and then at Duke, in order of most worrisome. Carter also asked which ACC teams should NC State want to avoid in the conference tournament in Greensboro in March.
There was some agreement and differences between Carter and Coe.
All that and much more!
