The Wolfpacker Show: NC State NET talk, women's basketball update
NC State men’s and women’s basketball are both heating up heading into the final stretch of the 2023-24 regular season. With the former on a two-game home winning streak and the latter back in the Associated Press Poll top 3, there are plenty of news and notes to discuss around both teams.
The Wolfpacker Show, hosted by Noah Fleischman and Ethan McDowell, recorded another episode Wednesday to break down the latest headlines around NC State basketball.
Thanks to victories over Miami and Georgia Tech at PNC Arena, the men’s squad’s NCAA Tournament hopes remain alive with just one month remaining before postseason play. The Pack won those ACC matchups and looked like the better team in both games.
NC State hosts Pittsburgh in a near must-win contest to continue the tournament push. A road matchup with Wake Forest is up next — a pivotal opportunity for a Quad 1 win after the Wolfpack defeated the Demon Deacons earlier this season.
Over the past week, the women’s team recorded two ranked wins. NC State defeated No. 24 North Carolina in a hard-fought rivalry matchup before picking up another victory against No. 15 Louisville during the team’s Play4Kay night.
The Wolfpack finishes off its three-game homestand with yet another top-15 showdown against No. 16 Virginia Tech. NC State has a chance to avenge a last-second loss to the Hokies earlier this season.
During this week’s show, the hosts talked about:
*** The Wolfpack men winning consecutive home games. Over the past couple of weeks, the program has shown some encouraging trends, and a recent hot streak by DJ Horne has helped propel the team through this stretch of the schedule. Both hosts offered their thoughts on NC State’s recent run of form and shared why this is absolutely sustainable.

*** Noah and Ethan also previewed the upcoming showdowns with Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. The Panthers are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the ACC, but the hosts like NC State’s chances.
*** Then, Noah provided an in-depth explanation of the Wolfpack’s NET ranking and explained what the team needs to do to improve that metric.
*** After a quick break, the hosts broke down the women’s team’s recent success on the court. The Pack made a statement over the past week. Noah and Ethan recapped the recent games and emphasized that winning ugly is much better than losing pretty.
*** To wrap up the show, they previewed a rivalry showdown with No. 16 Virginia Tech and made their predictions. After a heartbreaking defeat in early January, this game is clearly a motivating matchup for the Wolfpack.
