The Wolfpacker Show: NC State defensive line preview
NC State’s defensive line needs to replace a pair of starters this year. The competition for those spots continues July 31 when the Wolfpack opens up fall camp. In the weeks leading up to that day, TheWolfpacker.com will preview each position group.
This week is entirely focused on NC State’s defensive line and linebackers. The Wolfpacker Show hosts Ethan McDowell and Noah Fleischman recorded another episode dedicated to the program’s three-man front — the first defensive episode in the podcast preview series.

*** Noah and Ethan opened the show by breaking down the departures and incoming players for the Wolfpack. Two starting spots are up for grabs after former NC State nose tackle C.J. Clark transferred to Miami and defensive end Savion Jackson ran out of eligibility. The Wolfpack brought in Colorado defensive lineman Chazz Wallace from the transfer portal, and he is expected to be an instant contributor.
*** Then, the hosts talked about NC State’s two-deep along the defensive line. They spent a long time praising Davin Vann, the disruptive, versatile senior defensive lineman who returned for another year in Raleigh. He recorded 5.5 sacks for the Wolfpack in 2023, the third-best mark on the team. He will fill one of the program’s starting spots. As the recipient of the coveted No. 1 jersey, Vann will likely be a captain for the second consecutive year.

*** Brandon Cleveland and Travali Price appear to be the frontrunners to take the other starting spots. Noah and Ethan talked about what they are hearing on both defensive linemen who played valuable rotational roles in 2023. Pretty much every coach TheWolfpacker.com has spoken with, including head coach Dave Doeren, mentions Price as a potential breakout player.
