The Wolfpacker Show: NC State transfer portal and basketball updates
NC State football season is nearing its end, but the transfer portal is keeping everyone busy. The Wolfpack’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are wrapping up their respective non-conference schedules, with the latter achieving a top-three Associated Press Poll ranking.
There is a lot going on across NC State’s athletic calendar as the university completes its fall semester. Ethan McDowell and Noah Fleischman recorded another episode of The Wolfpacker Show Thursday to recap all of the latest news and highlights.
In addition to all of the recent transfer news and the action on the basketball court for the Wolfpack, NC State football is also preparing for its Dec. 28 Pop-Tarts Bowl showdown with Kansas State.
The Wildcats will be missing their starting quarterback, Will Howard, and offensive coordinator Collin Klein for the bowl game in Orlando, Florida, after they both left for other schools. NC State heads into that matchup as a 3.5-point underdog.
From David Thompson’s statue unveiling Wednesday, to a surprise presentation of the Butkus Award to Payton Wilson and a building winter official visit schedule for he Pack, this has been an action-packed week throughout Raleigh.
During this episode, Noah and Ethan discussed:
*** A busy stretch of the calendar for both Wolfpack basketball teams as they near conference play. Noah shared stories from his trip to Reynolds to see Thompson’s statue unveiled, describing a really cool event for the NC State men’s basketball legend.
*** Then, he recapped an eventful win for the Pack over Maryland Eastern Shore, which included MJ Rice’s first minutes with the program and a surprise for Wilson. The Wolfpack star linebacker won the Butkus Award, which recognizes the top linebacker in the nation, and he found out about the honor while on the court at Reynolds Coliseum. Wilson is one of three finalists for the Bednarik Award, an honor for the top defensive player in college football. The winner will be announced Friday night on ESPN.
