NC State football looked like it was ready to take a step forward against Syracuse. The offense punted once and put together long, sustained drives offensively that featured explosive passes from a variety of playmakers.

The Orange handed the Pack its second loss in a row inside Carter Finley Stadium Saturday night, winning 24-17 in large part thanks to 3 critical forced turnovers. NC State fumbled twice and threw an interception all inside Syracuse’s 30-yard line.

In a one-score game, those giveaways proved costly. The Orange finished with 3 touchdowns against the Pack, and each of those scoring drives immediately followed turnovers. Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord continued to show that he is one of the ACC’s top signal-callers with 346 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The Orange took care of the ball and did not record a turnover in this game, moving to 5-1 as the Pack dropped to 3-4.

Through seven games, NC State still has not registered a win against a Power Four opponent and joins UNC and Cal as the lone winless teams in the ACC. Next, NC State will fly west for its second true road game of the year. Cal hosts the Pack next week in a matchup between two programs struggling to start conference play.

The Wolfpacker Show hosts Noah Fleischman and Ethan McDowell sat down to record a new episode Sunday morning, talking about NC State’s loss to Syracuse and discussing what it means for this season.

During this episode of The Wolfpacker Show …

*** Noah and Ethan shared their initial thoughts on the loss. Overall, the offense showed improvements with freshman CJ Bailey under center. NC State looked explosive, and the quarterback racked up a career-high 329 yards passing.

*** Defensively, the Pack struggled to get off the field on first down in the first half, which helped Syracuse control the tempo of this game. McCord dealt with the blitz extremely well, which helped the Orange extend drives.

*** Turnovers were absolutely the story of this loss for the Wolfpack, so the hosts talked a lot about NC State’s 3 giveaways and their huge impact on the outcome of this conference clash. If a couple of those drives deep into Syracuse could have ended in points, this game would have looked much different.

*** The hosts handed out some game balls, recognizing standout individual performances from a few key players. Then, they wrapped up the show by talking about where NC State goes from here after losing for the fourth time this fall.
