The Wolfpacker Show: What's next for NC State basketball, plus spring game thoughts
NC State men’s and women’s basketball wrapped up their 2023-24 seasons over the weekend at the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Both programs fell in their respective national semifinal contests to No. 1 seeds, capping off a pair of historic runs.
The Wolfpack holds a ton of momentum going into a busy stretch in the offseason. Both programs are expected to retain their respective core players, while the men’s squad has already secured a commitment from one of the top athletes in the transfer portal — former Louisville forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield.
Hosts Noah Fleischman and Ethan McDowell traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, and Cleveland, Ohio, to cover the final postseason games of the NC State basketball season. After returning to the east coast, they sat down to record another episode of The Wolfpacker Show. They broke down the futures for both programs and shared memories from the national semifinal runs.
In this episode, the hosts talked about:
*** NC State men’s and women’s basketball’s improbable paths to the Final Four and how much fun the tournaments were to cover.
*** The national semifinal games and what went wrong for the Wolfpack down the stretch of both matchups.

*** The Pack’s roster outlook for both teams. NC State’s women’s squad returns all but two members of its rotation — center River Baldwin and forward Mimi Collins. Over the next few weeks, the Wolfpack will likely have to seek out a post player in the transfer portal to fill their void. Despite the departures from Collins and Baldwin, NC State has a lot to be excited about moving forward.
NC State’s men’s squad will have to replace a few key contributors, guard DJ Horne, guard Casey Morsell and DJ Burns. Noah outlined how the Wolfpack can fill those voids. Both basketball teams are bringing in talented freshman classes that could contribute immediately.
*** After a quick break, the hosts dived into a discussion around the Wolfpack’s spring game. They praised the offense, highlighting standout performances from freshman quarterback CJ Bailey, wide receiver Noah Rogers and others. They also previewed the defense and shared a few names that could step up on that side of the ball. Both hosts were very excited about what they saw in the Wolfpack’s annual scrimmage.
