Tim Peeler: Looking back at 'The Mending Fences Bowl' between NC State, ECU in 1992
Most non-championship bowl games are supposed to be enjoyable, a reward for a successful regular season. It’s time to go to a different setting, be pampered a little bit by an overeager host committee in matching sportscoats. It’s an opportunity to add another win to the season’s total, get some additional practice time for returning players and visit a pediatric hospital or two. They aren’t supposed to be rivalry renewals. That model was broken to bits on New Year’s Day 1992, when Old North State foes NC State and East Carolina faced off in the final college football game ever played at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, a Peach Bowl game unlike any other.
