BREAKING: Top-20 forward commits to NC State, will likely enroll soon
NC State received some massive news Wednesday evening when four-star class of 2023 forward Isaiah Miranda announced his commitment to the Wolfpack. He chose the Pack over USC, Louisville and many others.
According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, everything he has heard indicates that Miranda will enroll mid-year and start contributing to NC State this season. He would still be eligible for the 2023 NBA Draft. The 7-0 forward is from Rhode Island but is enrolled at Los Angeles (Cal.) So Cal Academy right now for a post-grad year.
If he does decide to enroll with the Wolfpack for the rest of the 2022-23 season, he could have a huge opportunity to contribute following an injury to Dusan Mahorcic during Tuesday night’s win over Coppin State at Reynolds Coliseum. Miranda brings tremendous versatility and defensive skill to NC State’s front court.
He described his playing style to Shaw in an interview earlier this fall.
“Positionless, really, that’s the best way to describe my game,” Miranda said. “Just a positionless player that’s ready to play hard no matter what. I feel like before, I had a lot of areas I was scared to grow in, so I wouldn’t do certain things, but I feel like now, I’m comfortable experimenting with myself.”

The On3 Consensus, which rates all four major recruiting services equally, has Miranda ranked the No. 27 recruit and No. 6 power forward nationally.
Here’s Miranda’s On3 scouting summary:
“The tools pop immediately for Isaiah Miranda. At 7-0, 7-1 the center moves in a way most his size are not able. He is very fluid with a lot of explosive pop. Miranda can shoot the ball with deep range and he has great hand eye coordination with touch. His shot selection can be very erratic at times. He will have to learn the finer nuances of the game, like angles and footwork (he is oftentimes out of position to make a play). When it comes to raw upside, there might not be a player with more in this class. Now it is a matter of polishing it and putting it all together.”
The On3 NIL Valuation valued Miranda’s name, image and likeness worth at $96,000, which is 60th best among high school basketball players.
NC State had room for one more player before reaching the scholarship limit. The Miranda addition means that committed forward Mady Traoré, a 6-foot-11 native of France, will likely defer his enrollment till next season.
