BREAKING: Priority OT Trent Mitchell commits to NC State
Trent Mitchell, one of the top offensive tackles in North Carolina, announced Wednesday that he has committed to NC State. He picked up an offer from the Wolfpack this spring, spent a weekend in Raleigh on an official visit and committed shortly after.
The Gastonia (NC) Ashbrook High priority prospect is NC State’s first offensive line commit for 2024, kicking off what could potentially be a busy July full of commitment announcements. Mitchell announced the decision on Twitter. He picked the Pack over offers from Rutgers, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia Tech.
NC State officially extended an offer to the lineman April 18, but his recruitment began sooner than that. He attended a Jan. 21 junior day with the Wolfpack. That initial trip to campus made a great impression and quickly established the in-state program as one of his top schools.

“It means a lot,” Mitchell said of the Wolfpack offer. “I get the chance to stay at home and play in front of my family and friends.”
Mitchell then returned to campus June 16-18 for his first visit with the Wolfpack. He went into that trip holding the program in high regard, and that weekend helped solidify that feeling.
“It was great,” Mitchell said after the visit. “I feel like I fit right in. The first time I went, I didn’t get to see the rest of campus, and it’s pretty cool. The people out there are great and very caring.”

The lineman is the No. 11 commit in the Wolfpack’s 2024 class. NC State plans on signing four offensive linemen this cycle.
Wolfpack offensive line coach Garett Tujague was the lineman’s primary recruiter. Following his second trip to campus, he shared what he likes about his future position coach.
“His coaching style and just the way he’s straightforward,” Mitchell said.
The 6-6, 290-pound lineman’s official with the Pack took place in the middle of his three-part visit schedule. He spent a weekend at ECU June 2-4 before wrapping up the month with Maryland June 23-25.
On3 considers Mitchell a high three-star prospect, the No. 18 prospect in North Carolina and the No. 38 offensive tackle in the country. Going into his decision, NC State led his Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) at 87.9 percent.
