NC State is halfway to bowl eligibility after it beat Northern Illinois this past weekend heading into a Week 6 clash with Wake Forest. As the Pack approaches bowl eligibility status, TheWolfpacker.com will update the team’s latest projections each week.

The Wolfpack’s current bowl projections are a wide-variety of the current slate, including the Birmingham, Gasparilla, Holiday and Military Bowls.

NC State was projected to play in the Birmingham Bowl against Cincinnati by the Action Network’s Brett McMurphy. That game is set to be played on Dec. 27 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.

While the Wolfpack has never played in the Birmingham Bowl, it was also projected to appear in the Gasparilla Bowl by ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura, another postseason game NC State has yet to appear in. The Pack was projected to face off with Colorado, which would be on Dec. 20 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

In addition to the Gasparilla Bowl projection, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach currently believes the Wolfpack would play in the Military Bowl against Navy on Dec. 28 in Annapolis, Md. NC State has never appeared in that postseason game, which is held on the Naval Academy’s campus.

Rounding out this week’s bowl projections is CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm, who has the Wolfpack set to play Washington State in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, Calif. NC State was supposed to play in that postseason game to cap the 2021 season, but a COVID-19 outbreak within the UCLA program canceled the game.

NC State has appeared in eight bowl games under coach Dave Doeren, but the Wolfpack has not won in the postseason since it beat Arizona State 52-31 in the 2017 Sun Bowl. The Pack lost to Kansas State 28-19 in the Pop-Tarts Bowl last season.

The Wolfpack has also played in the Duke’s Mayo, Gator, Independence, Belk and St. Petersburg Bowls during Doeren’s tenure.
