NC State sat idle this past weekend as it prepared for its final four games of the regular season. The Pack, which sits just two wins away from bowl eligibility at .500 through its first eight games, is projected to reach that mark this fall.

The Wolfpack was projected to play in four different bowls by national media outlets going into its home date with Stanford on Saturday afternoon.

Action Network’s Brett McMurphy slotted the Pack in the Pinstripe Bowl against Wisconsin, which would be set to play at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 28 in New York City. That hypothetical matchup would pit coach Dave Doeren against the Badgers, where he was the defensive coordinator for five seasons, for the first time ever.

While the Pack could end up in the city that never sleeps, NC State was projected to go a little further north by ESPN’s Mark Schlabach. He had the Wolfpack squaring off with Memphis in the Fenway Bowl, set for Dec. 28 in Boston.

In addition to the two baseball stadium bowl games, NC State also received projections for a pair of postseason bouts in Alabama.

Athlon Sports slotted the Wolfpack in the Birmingham Bowl against South Alabama on Dec. 27, while ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura placed NC State in the Camellia Bowl against UConn on Dec. 14 in Montgomery, Ala..

NC State has played in a bowl hosted in Birmingham, Ala., twice in program history — the 1990 All-American Bowl (a 31-27 win over Southern Miss) and the 2008 PapaJohns.com Bowl (a 29-23 loss to Rutgers).

The Pack has appeared in eight bowl games under coach Dave Doeren, but NC State has not won in the postseason since it beat Arizona State 52-31 in the 2017 Sun Bowl. The Pack lost to Kansas State 28-19 in the Pop-Tarts Bowl last season.

The Wolfpack has also played in the Duke’s Mayo, Gator, Independence, Belk and St. Petersburg Bowls during Doeren’s tenure.
