Vanderbilt transfer 1B Matt Ossenfort commits to NC State
NC State baseball has been busy in the transfer portal this offseason, filling needs left by departing graduate students. Its latest addition is Vanderbilt transfer first baseman Matt Ossenfort, who announced his commitment to the Wolfpack on social media Tuesday morning.
Ossenfort, a rising sophomore, is expected to fill the void that Garrett Pennington left after his eligibility expired following the 2024 season.
The Sioux Falls, S.D., native hit .182 with a double and a home run in six appearances with the Commodores this spring. He had a sky-high .545 slugging percentage in his 11 at-bats at Vanderbilt.
Ossenfort was a highly-touted recruit out of Marjory Stoneman Douglass High, as the No. 10 first baseman nationally. He hit .392 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI as a senior, and Ossenfort helped the squad to the national championship in 2023 with an undefeated campaign.

“Matt comes to us with a high aptitude for hitting,” Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said of Ossenfort after he signed. “He is a well-rounded hitter who has power and uses the whole field. I love his potential inside our program. Ozzie is a very competitive player with a strong desire to be good. He is a personable young man with a curious mind. A lot of fun to coach.”
Ossenfort tied Marjory Stoneman Douglass High’s school record for the most home runs and he was a four-time Perfect Game Preseason All-American during his time there.
The corner infielder is the Wolfpack’s fourth transfer portal pickup of the offseason. NC State earned commitments from Campbell outfielder Dalen Thompson, UNC Greensboro right-handed pitcher Julien Peissel and Georgia Tech third baseman Ryan Jaros in June.
