VCU transfer infielder Chris McHugh confident against ACC opponents as he joins NC State

Shortly after VCU infielder Chris McHugh entered the transfer portal, he heard from NC State coach Elliott Avent. The Wolfpack’s veteran skipper watched the rising sophomore for his first three games of his collegiate career to open this past spring, so he was rather familiar with McHugh.  And those contests came to Avent’s mind rather quickly on the phone. He joked with McHugh about how well he made contact with NC State’s pitching, even though a 3-for-11 stat line seems pedestrian. McHugh made loud contact for much of the weekend, and hit a two-RBI single to hand NC State its first loss of the season.  Now, after a brief time in the transfer portal following a coaching change in Richmond, McHugh will be on Avent’s team. He committed to NC State on Friday afternoon, becoming the Wolfpack’s seventh Division I transfer of the cycle.
