Why North Texas CB Brian Nelson II believed NC State was the right fit in transfer portal

Brian Nelson II had a slight bit of apprehension when he entered the transfer portal in late April. The North Texas cornerback went through spring practice with the Eagles, but opted to look for a new place to play just two days before the NCAA’s movement period closed. Although he had spent his entire life in Texas, rising from an underrated defensive back at Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek High in the state’s highest classification to one of the American Athletic Conference’s top cornerbacks in just three years, Nelson wanted to play on a bigger stage. And to do that, leaving his home state, filled with football tradition was likely. But that didn’t seem to rattle the rising redshirt sophomore.
