NC State received another commitment from a top-15 athlete in North Carolina Friday afternoon when Arden (NC) Christ School athlete Zack Myers announced his commitment on Instagram. Myers selected the Wolfpack from a final four made up of NC State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and South Carolina

Myers is the eighth commitment of the 2023 class and the third defensive prospect total. He plays both sides of the ball at Christ School and is being recruited as a safety for NC State. Ten power-five programs extended scholarship offers to Myers, but the defensive back decided to wrap up his recruitment one week after his first official visit to NC State. The safety has visited campus a total of three times.

He originally had a second official visit scheduled to Virginia Tech this weekend but set his commitment date for Friday earlier this week. At 6-1 and 185 pounds, Myers is an On3 Consensus three-star prospect and the No. 15 recruit in North Carolina. Myers is the fifth in-state commit in the class.

After reclassifying to 2024, Myers rejoined the 2023 class earlier this year, becoming one of the highest-rated rising seniors in the state. At Christ School, Myers made 13 tackles, broke up three passes and pulled down two interceptions over the course of eight games last fall. He also racked up 499 receiving yards, averaging 22.7 yards per reception and catching five touchdowns.

This announcement closely follows Isaiah Shirley’s commitment to NC State on Tuesday. In an interview with The Wolfpacker that day, the three-star defensive lineman said he spent a lot of time with Myers while both were on campus last weekend for official visits.

Shirley, Myers and offensive lineman recruit Kamen Smith are all from Western North Carolina and bonded over the weekend during their respective trips to Raleigh. Shirley said he already started recruiting both of his friends earlier this week.

Myers is also friends with NC State three-star cornerback commit Brandon Cisse. The two met at a camp last year, and Cisse told The Wolfpacker that he was also recruiting the safety to join him in Raleigh once he committed June 14.

The safety also has a connection to NC State through Aydan White, a sophomore defensive back for the Wolfpack who also attended Christ school before signing with NC State as a part of the 2020 class.

Myers is the Wolfpack’s third-consecutive defensive commitment. He is the highest-rated commitment on that side of the ball and the Wolfpack’s second-highest ranked prospect of the class according to the On3 Consensus, which considers him the No. 412 prospect in the nation. Only four-star tight end commit Javonte Vereen is rated higher.
