ATH Gage Wager may be doing a little bit of everything at Nebraska

The term athlete gets thrown around a lot. There are two positions that Gage Wager knows that he will be playing at Nebraska for sure. There are two other positions under consideration for the Arlington (Texas) Martin recruit who will be joining his dad and a pair of teammates in Lincoln next year.
“It was an unofficial visit,” Wager said. “It was similar to an official visit because we did a lot of the same things that the other official visitors got to do.
“I left on Saturday morning with Jeremiah and Ismael. I left after they did because they had basketball practice, but we did everything together during the weekend.”
Gage had a chance to see Lincoln before his father took the job in Lincoln. He says that he’s excited about his dad coaching at Nebraska and his teammates joining him to play at Nebraska.
“I got to look at it a little bit before my dad took the job at Nebraska. I am just excited about the experience that is coming my way. And especially to go and do this with my former teammates, being able to play with them, and experience it with them.”
Where will Gage Wager play at Nebraska?
The biggest question that remains for Wager is where will he play. He knows he will be doing some kicking, but the question then becomes, will he also have a role on offense, and if so, where?
“Well, that is what we are kind of trying to figure out,” Wager said. “What am I all going to do? I am not sure what that is quite yet, but I think that it’s a little of everything.
“I know that I will be doing punting and kicking for sure and whether they want me to play running back or wide receiver is another decision that has to be made.”
Wager came away from the weekend with a great feel about Nebraska and the city of Lincoln. He could feel the support for the team over the weekend and wants to help his dad make the team successful again.

“They love Nebraska football in Lincoln,” Wager said. “The school is basically in the center of the town, and the stadium is in the main event in all of Nebraska. Everyone wants to see Nebraska succeed, and I think that we are going to be able to do that.”
Gage Wager had other walk-on opportunities
Wager had options. He had two, preferred walk-on opportunities to stay in Texas and play in the Big XII and would have been in the SEC down the line.
“I was considering playing football at either Texas or Texas Tech and being a punter and a kicker. Those were my two options. I have preferred walk-on opportunities for both schools.”
Like football and playing several positions, Wager played several sports in high school, including a number of events in track.
“I ran track and I played soccer in high school along with playing football,” Wager said. “I did the 300-meter hurdles, 4×400-meter relay, pole vault, 4×200-meter relay, and 110-meter hurdles.”
Wager says that he would like to major wither in business or communications at Nebraska and plans to either be an entrepreneur, something in real estate or become a coach.
