Caden VerMaas chooses Nebraska becoming first commitment in 2025 class for Huskers
Last October, Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph extended an offer to 2025 safety Caden VerMaas from Omaha (Neb.) Millard North. When there is a head coaching change, there isn’t a guarantee that you will be re-offered.
Matt Rhule and his staff connected quickly with VerMaas though which isn’t a surprise based on Rhule’s tendencies to target recruits with speed. VerMaas plays fast.
Nebraska is off and running in the 2025 class picking up its first commitment from an in-state target. VerMaas, a 6-foot-0 and 195-pound athlete figures into playing in the secondary at the next level, likely at a safety position.
The Huskers were the first to offer VerMaas. Nebraska offered VerMaas when Mickey Joseph was the interim head coach in October. VerMaas has taken three visits to Nebraska since he was offered including the in-state junior day in early December and was also in Lincoln just a day before junior day in March.

Iowa State was the second school to offer VerMaas, and he was receiving recruiting attention from Iowa, Northwestern, Wyoming, and North Dakota State. VerMaas took multiple trips to Iowa and visited Northwestern and ISU recently.
Caden VerMaas was the first Nebraska offer to a Millard North prospect since Sean Fisher in 2008 and Corey Young in 2006. This off-season, VerMaas would have normally played baseball for the Mustangs. This year he decided to train to do MMA instead of playing baseball.
