Cross County fullback Izaac Dickey follows his dream to walk on at Nebraska
Little did Stromsburg (Neb.) Cross County fullback Izaac Dickey know how much his life would change after camping twice at Nebraska in a week.
The 5-foot-10, 210-pound Dickey took part in the Huskers’ fullback camp on June 13 and a normal camp session on June 16. On Sunday, he officially announced his intentions to join the NU program as a walk-on in 2024.
“I went to the fullback camp and did pretty good,” Dickey said. “Four of the fullbacks got pulled into the players’ lounge, and then later, I got called into Coach (Matt) Rhule’s office, and I talked to him for a bit.
“I didn’t get asked to go to the Friday camp that week. I was already signed up. Then a week went by, and I had reached out to them about playing at Nebraska. Then they told me to call them, and they said: ‘Are you still willing to commit?’ And I said: ‘Definitely.’ That’s pretty much how it all went down.”
Izaac Dickey plays at the eight-man level
What’s interesting about Cross County is they play eight-man football but now have two Division I football prospects on its team in the class of 2024.

Alabama WR to transfer
Besides Dickey, tight end Tanner Hollinger plays at Cross County. After his official visit to Illinois this weekend, he just picked up his first Power Five offer.
“I think this year we have a great chance to compete for a state championship,” Dickey said.
Dickey has proven speed, and that is one thing that jumped out to the Husker coaching staff.
He ran 11.11 seconds in the 100-meter dash this spring and 4.66 seconds in the 40-yard dash at NU’s camp this month. He also clocked a time of 4.31 seconds in the pro-agility.
“The nice thing for me is I know I’ll be able to gain 10 to 15 pounds pretty easily going into next year,” Dickey said. “I’m lactose intolerant, which makes it pretty hard.”
Dickey also participates in powerlifting but might wrestle now in the winter.
He’s excited to have this decision behind him and focus on his senior season.
“This is really exciting,” Dickey said of his decision to walk on at NU. “I’ve been talking to my parents about this for a while if I was given the opportunity to walk on, I would take it in a heartbeat. It’s Nebraska. You can’t pass that up.
“I some excited about this. I’m so excited to work my tail off.”
