The Nebraska staff have added their third commitment to the class. Ashton Murphy from Elkhorn (Neb.) Elkhorn South committed to Nebraska following an unofficial visit to Lincoln on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 and 242-pound defensive line target connected with the Husker coaching staff, making him feel right at home.

“I honestly felt like it was the people at Nebraska,” Murphy said. “They are all really nice and open and all made an effort to recruit me and make me part of the family.”

Murphy was in Lincoln today, but is fresh off of a series of visits to other schools. He says that he needed to find the best fit and felt like he found it in Lincoln.

“I needed to see all of my options. No two schools are the same. I felt like Nebraska was the best fit for me and had everything I wanted from a school.”

Versatile role for Ashton Murphy on Nebraska defensive line

The Huskers see Murphy playing on the defensive side of the ball while some other schools saw him as an offensive tackle. Murphy can see the role the Huskers want him to play on their defense.

“I look forward to it!” Murphy said. “It’s fun to play on the defensive side of the ball. I really think that I can do something at Nebraska playing at Nebraska.”

One of the things that Nebraska has to like about Murphy is his length and athleticism. He has a frame that he can add some size, and it’s clear Nebraska thinks that he will be able to keep some of his athleticism and project him to play three or four spots on the defensive line.

“They said that they can see me playing defensive tackle. That would be playing the three-technique out to a 4 or 4i and even a 5.”

Murphy’s plan is to return to Lincoln next weekend for the spring game. He says that he will also plan to take his official visit to Nebraska soon.

“I will be back in Lincoln next weekend for the spring game. It will be good to see all of the coaches again after my commitment.”
