Nebraska has secured its first commitment and arguably the most critical piece for the 2027 recruiting class with four-star On300 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor. Taylor, from Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic, chose the Huskers over Illinois, LSU, and Texas A&M. He is regarded as the No. 40 recruit and the No. 3 quarterback nationally in the 2027 class.

The Huskers got their man. Since the start of the new year, Nebraska has been hyper-focused on recruiting a quarterback for the 2027 class. Taylor received all of their attention and focus.

Taylor visited Nebraska for the first time October 5, 2024, when the Huskers hosted Rutgers. During that visit, he received an offer from Nebraska. He returned weeks later for his second visit when the Huskers played Wisconsin.

Nebraska hosted Taylor twice more this spring. The first visit was during Nebraska’s first spring practice of the year. It provided an opportunity for Taylor to observe how the machine works behind the scenes and how the Nebraska staff treats players.

“All of the amazing things I could say about my visit to Nebraska today,” Taylor said. “Just to start, the coaching staff is really united; they’re really one big family. Coach (Glenn) Thomas with the quarterbacks is going to work them, but he’s not a big yeller. He’s not gonna really cuss you out for the first time.

“It was their first practice in pads so we got to see all the kids get a glimpse of what their season is going to look like. I got to see Dylan (Raiola) throw and go live a little bit. It was really cool, and the practice was really good.”

The last visit to Nebraska was significant for Trae Taylor

The visit to Nebraska in March was supposed to be Taylor’s last visit to Lincoln. He informed all the schools he visited throughout the spring that it would be his final trip to their institution before deciding. However, Taylor returned to Lincoln last week for the “Husker Games” event.

“Honestly, there was business that needed to be discussed, and it needed to be in person,” Trae’s father, JR Taylor, said.

There may have been business to discuss, but Taylor also was interested in experiencing Husker Nation. He wanted to interact with the fans and feel what it would be like to play for Nebraska if he were suited up for the Huskers.

“The fans at Nebraska have always been great,” JR Taylor said. “Now that they know he is serious about Nebraska, they have really shown him love.

“Trae tries to engage with all fan bases now that he has a little more time. Nebraska has been engaged in person and on social media, which he loves. Whatever school he decides on, he hopes they follow him on social media so they can get to know him before he gets on campus.”

Taylor and Taylor’s father stated that one reason Taylor committed so early was to contribute to the team he chooses to recruit. Taylor aims to assist not only with the 2027 recruiting class but also with the 2026 class.
