Four Nebraska volleyball players announced as AVCA All-Americans

Nebraska volleyball earned four AVCA All-America honors the day before taking on Pittsburgh in the NCAA Final Four.

Junior libero Lexi Rodriguez and junior opposite hitter Merritt Beason are first-team All-Americans. Rodriguez is a three-time All-American and a two-time first teamer. Beason earns her first All-American honor.

Freshman setter Bergen Reilly is a second-team All-American pick. Freshman outside hitter Harper Murray is on the third team.

Nebraska’s earned many awards in December. Rodriguez, Beason, Reilly and Murray are All-Big Ten first-team selections. Middle blockers Bekka Allick and Andi Jackson were second-team selections. Reilly, Murray and Jackson are all on the conference’s All-Freshman team.

Allick and Jackson were also AVCA North All-Region picks outside the four All-Americans.

The Huskers also racked up individual awards. Rodriguez is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Murray is the Freshman of the Year and Reilly is the first freshman to earn the Big Ten Setter of the Year award.

As for the AVCA North Region individual awards, Beason is the region’s Player of the Year and Murray is also the North’s Freshman of the Year.

Cook is the Big Ten Coach of the Year and the AVCA North Region Coach of the Year. The AVCA Coach of the Year and most of the individuals have not been announced yet.

Pittsburgh freshman opposite hitter Olivia Babcock is the National Player of the Year and a first-team All-American selection. Setter Rachel Fairbanks is also a first-team All-American. Outside hitter Torrey Stafford is a third-team selection.

The other first-team All-Americans are USC OH Skylar Fields, Tennessee RS Morgahn Fingall, Wisconsin OH Sarah Franklin, Washington St. MB Magda Jehlarova, Stanford RS Kendall Kipp, Arizona State RS Kendall Kipp, Arizona State RS Marta Levinska, Stanford S Kami Miner, Texas MB Asjia O’Neal, Oregon S Hannah Pukis and Texas OH Madisen Skinner.

Next up for the Huskers is their Final Four match against Pitt on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. CT at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
