Four Nebraska volleyball players earn All-Big Ten recognition

Four Nebraska volleyball players were selected for Big Ten postseason awards by the league’s 14 head coaches.

Senior outside hitter Madi Kubik and sophomore libero Lexi Rodriguez were picked as First Team All-Big Ten honorees. Middle blockers Kaitlyn Hord and Bekka Allick were named in the All-Big Ten Second Team. Allick was also one of the two unanimously selected players for the All-Big Ten Freshman team.

Purdue outside hitter Eva Hudson, who was named the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, was the other unanimous selection.

Setter Anni Evans received Nebraska volleyball’s Sportsmanship Award. The junior walk-on from Waverly, Neb. has taken on a big role this season. She has played in 24 matches and averaged 4.38 assists per set.

Kubik, a senior captain, is no stranger to receiving awards. This is her second consecutive Big Ten First Team selection. She was a second-team selection in 2019. The West Des Moines, Iowa native is averaging 3.24 kills per set and is hitting .251 this season, the best in her career as a Husker. The 6-foot-3 senior has 2.41 digs per set as a six-rotation outside hitter.

Rodriguez is the queen of awards and she is only a sophomore. She now has two All-Big Ten First-Team selections on her resume. The 5-foot-5 libero led the Huskers with 4.26 digs per set and helped them become the best floor defense in the nation. Nebraska leds the country with a .129 opponent hitting percentage. As a freshman, the Sterling, Illinois native was an AVCA First-Team All-American, AVCA Freshman of the Year and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

Three takes from Nebraska’s NCAA tournament selection placement

Hord is new to Nebraska but brought a streak of three All-Big Ten First Team awards with her from Penn State. This season, she received a second-team selection. She finished the regular season with 1.55 blocks per set, the second-most in the conference and the fourth-most in the nation. The 6-foot-4 middle averaged 1.39 kills per set and hit .287.

Allick made a huge splash as a freshman in one of the best volleyball conferences in the country. She was a second-team honoree along with one of two unanimous All-Big Ten Freshman Team selections. The Lincoln native had a team-high .322 hitting percentage with 1.95 kills per set and 1.03 blocks per set. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice this season.
