The postseason honors continue to roll in for Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg. On Thursday, he received the 2024 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award.

Given to the nation’s top Division I coach, the Phelan Award is voted on by a 10-member committee consisting of current and former head coaches and two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.

The honor comes after Hoiberg was named the Big Ten Conference’s Co-Coach of the Year last month.

Hoiberg is the second Husker head coach to earn the honor, joining Tim Miles in 2014. He was chosen from 20 finalists for the award and is the second straight Big Ten coach to win, following Northwestern’s Chris Collins last year.

Hoiberg guided Nebraska to one of its most successful seasons ever, capped with its first NCAA Tournament appearance in a decade. The Huskers finished 23-11 overall and 12-8 in conference play, earning an 8-seed in Mach Madness.

That marked NU’s most wins in a season since 1990-91 and its highest conference finish (third) since 1992-92. The Huskers also reached the semifinals of this year’s Big Ten Tournament. That was the furthest they’d advanced in a league tourney since 2006.
