Fred Hoiberg on Texas A&M job rumors: 'My future is at Nebraska'

LAS VEGAS – Nebraska prepared for its College Basketball Crown semifinal showdown against Boise State with its first practice at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.
After breaking down his team’s matchup with the Broncos, NU head coach Fred Hoiberg had to address rumors that had been swirling about his future with the Huskers.
Earlier this week, sportsbetting.org listed Hoiberg as 7/2 odds (+350) to become the next head coach at Texas A&M. Those were the second-highest odds behind only Oklahoma’s Porter Moser (3/1).
That rapidly made its way around the Husker social media and message board world, leaving many wondering if Hoiberg might consider moving on after six seasons in Lincoln.
When asked about the rumor on Friday, Hoiberg quickly and concisely shut it down.
“No, no,” Hoiberg said with a chuckle and a head shake. “My future is at Nebraska.”
Texas A&M’s search has included multiple rumored targets since Buzz Williams left for Maryland. As of Friday, Samford head coach Bucky McMillan had emerged as the new favorite for the opening.

Hoiberg calls BYU exhibition series a ‘barometer’ opportunity for the Huskers
On Thursday, Nebraska announced a future home-and-home exhibition series with BYU. The first meeting will be next season at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday, Oct. 18, followed by a 2026 return trip to Provo, Utah.
Hoiberg said the Huskers had contacted a handful of other teams about a similar opportunity, but the Cougars ended up being an ideal matchup.

In its first year under head coach Kevin Young, BYU finished 26-10 before falling in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament to Alabama. The Cougars will add the nation’s No. 1 overall 2026 recruit, five-star AJ Dybantsa, to its roster next season.
Hoiberg said Young also wanted to give his team an early road test going into its highly-anticipated season.
“That’s going to be one of the top teams in the country,” Hoiberg said. “They’ve got the No. 1 player coming in who will probably be the No. 1 player in the following year. So, it gives us a chance to go against a really, really high-level talent, first of all, and a really good roster.
“It’s going to be a good game and will give us a barometer of where we are and show us things that we’re going to have to work on.”
