Freshman DL Keona Davis will return to Nebraska
Freshman defensive lineman Keona Davis will return to Nebraska.
Earlier this week, Davis entered the NCAA transfer portal, but after a change of heart, will return to NU in 2025. HuskerOnline confirmed Davis was back with the team for lifting on Wednesday morning. He announced his return officially on Wednesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Davis was among the most impressive freshmen in the Huskers’ 2024 recruiting class. He played in 11 games in 2024 for 90 defensive snaps. Davis had nine total tackles, including 1.5 for loss in those 11 games.
His season-high snaps came against Northern Iowa, where he played 17 snaps. He saw 16 against Indiana and 14 vs. Purdue.
Nebraska has big shoes to fill on the defensive line
With the departure of veterans Ty Robinson, Nash Hutchmacher and Jimari Butler, Davis is a potential projected starter on NU’s defensive line in 2025.
The Big Red lost defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton to Florida State a week ago, which coincided with multiple Nebraska defensive players entering the transfer portal.

Getting Davis back is a big win for newly-named defensive coordinator John Butler and defensive line coach Terry Bradden.
In the coming weeks, the Huskers are still expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal to add more depth and experience on its defensive line.
The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 9 and closes at midnight on Dec. 28. The Huskers will play Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. in Yankee Stadium.
