Kade McIntyre visits Nebraska ahead of his official visits

Things are moving quickly for 2023 Fremont (Neb.) Archbishop Bergan athlete Kade McIntyre lately.
With five upcoming official visits on his schedule, things slowed down enough on Wednesday for McIntyre to head 45 minutes south for a trip to Lincoln.

“I met with coach (Barrett) Ruud and went through some linebacker stuff,” McIntyre said. “We just went over the emphasis for what the linebacker room is about and the consistency, accountability, and discipline that they are looking for in their linebackers.
“We watched some film on some places where they say they can see me playing at the MIKE spot. I met with Coach (Scott) Frost and just talked to him. He told me how much they would like to have me on their team and he told me about my talents and my abilities. I also met with the defensive coordinator (Erik Chinander).
“They think that I am a good fit and think that I should come to Nebraska.”
McIntyre is an athlete first and foremost. He’s a two-time all-state selection at wide receiver and could grow into playing tight end. Nebraska’s staff first viewed McIntyre as offensive recruit, but now see him as an in-the-box linebacker.
“Coach Ruud sees me as an off-the-ball linebacker,” McIntyre said. “He talked to me about being more in the box and playing A gap and B gap. That position has evolved, though. It’s not the same fill-gap, hit a 330-pound offensive lineman head-on. It’s about stretching it out and using long arms with the technique.”
You can see plays on McIntyre’s junior highlights that back up Nebraska’s new evaluation. He can knife through a gap and really does use his longer frame to his advantage in the trenches.
“I think that I can play that position very well,” McIntyre said. “(Rudd) mentioned that I was kind of like Luke Reimer, where I was kind of that longer athlete that still has that speed and athleticism getting around everywhere.”

McIntyre’s popularity has skyrocketed recently with offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Nebraska following the Huskers. He has scheduled all of his official visits, but the Huskers won’t be one of them.
“As of right now, all of my official visits are taken up with Oklahoma, Iowa, Tennessee, Minnesota and Kansas State,” McIntyre said. “Nebraska talked to me about taking an official visit, but I have been up there so many times and it’s just 45 minutes away. I needed these official visits to help with the travel to see some schools I haven’t been to before.
“Nebraska is very accessible. If there is something that I need to do or need to see there I can just go there. And that is probably the biggest reason I took the route of not taking an official visit there because it’s close and been there so many times.”
Like he did on Wednesday, McIntyre could easily head down to Lincoln if he wanted to look at things again before making a decision. He doubted a commitment would come in June due to his busy schedule, but he plans on deciding before the start of his senior year.
“I could possibly make another trip up there, but my June is very full with the other official visits and travel,” McIntyre said. “I will be very busy. Before this kind of all blew up, I thought I would decide at the end of June. Now I am thinking before the end of summer.”
McIntyre finished his junior season with 63 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six sacks and one fumble recovery on defense.
