Kyle Perry to return for sixth season with Nebraska baseball
Nebraska baseball will have one of its most used bullpen arms back next year.
Kyle Perry announced on Saturday afternoon that he will be returning for a sixth season with the Huskers. The left-hander made his intentions known via a video posted to Twitter. Perry detailed his journey, which has included a pair of elbow injuries, throughout the message.
“I’ve been here five years, so what’s one more?” he said in his announcement.
Last season, the Millard South product made 19 appearances which third among bullpen arms. It’s the highest number of any pitcher returning from that unit in 2024. Perry posted a 5.46 ERA in 31 1/3 innings of work with 29 strikeouts compared to 11 walks.
He began his career as a Husker in 2019 where he made seven starts in 11 appearances as a freshman. Perry pitched 26 1/3 innings with a 5.47 ERA and 29 strikeouts. His sophomore season featured four appearances and a start with a 5.06 ERA before the COVID-19 pandemic struck and cut the year short.
In July of that year, Perry underwent Tommy John surgery.
His road to recovery came to an end with four starts during the 2021 campaign. He threw 10 1/3 innings while working himself back highlighted by a 4 1/3 inning performance at the Fayetteville Regional against Arkansas.

Disaster struck again in 2022 when another arm injury sidelined Perry four starts into the year. His 0-2 record and 6.75 ERA were the worst marks of his career.
After working through another lengthy rehab process, Perry returned in 2023 and completed just his second full season in Lincoln. He is the 24th expected arm on the 2024 roster for pitching coach Rob Childress and head coach Will Bolt.
Nebraska’s staff will need to cut its roster down to 40 players by the time the 2024 season begins in February.
