LB Eric Fields makes his commitment to Nebraska official on signing day
A recruit that Nebraska fans have instantly developed a passion for is Ardmore (Okla.) linebacker Eric Fields. Fields has speed from the second level that Nebraska needs.
The Huskers brought Fields in for an official visit before offering. After NU offered Fields, it didn’t take long to tell where things were headed.
“I felt relieved, actually. There was a lot of stress lifted off my shoulders knowing I had an actual offer,” Fields said when offered this past weekend. “I actually feel blessed. It’s crazy to think I have an offer now from Nebraska coming from a small town in Oklahoma.”

Fields got the offer he was looking for and officially signed with the Huskers on Wednesday.
The very active, very athletic linebacker that flashes all over his highlight film could play several spots for Matt Rhule. He fits a hybrid outside linebacker that is a bit like a safety or is more of an inside guy.

“They said I have a lot of speed they could utilize in the defense,” Fields said. “I’m not sure where that’s at. Probably outside. They see me as an edge guy and want me free. They want me to blitz the quarterback sometimes and stuff like that.”
Nebraska is loading up with speed on both sides of the football. Fields is one of four players that were part of the overall recruiting weekend with 10.8 speed or better in the 100 meter dash. Addressing team speed is something that Matt Rhule has been doing with the very first offers he made as head coach.
There’s no question his time in Lincoln this weekend had an impact on him.
“Everybody is nice, everybody is welcoming and they have a good fan base,” Fields said. “Even my driver that dropped me off said he’s looking forward to seeing me on TV.”
