Michigan dominates Nebraska Women’s Basketball 78-60

Nebraska Women’s Basketball’s second-half battle wasn’t enough to overcome Michigan’s strong offense. The Huskers (16-7, 7-5) fell to Michigan (16-7, 7-5) 78-60 at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday.
Michigan outscored Nebraska 24-7 in the second quarter. The Huskers recorded 21 points in the third but couldn’t overcome a 19-point deficit. NU cut Michigan’s lead to 10 in the third but didn’t get any closer.
Alexis Markowski paced Nebraska with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She sparked NU in the third quarter with seven points and six rebounds. Britt Prince added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Greta Kampschroeder led Michigan with 16 points. Jordan Hopps had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Syla Swords was the Wolverines’ third player to score double-digit points with 15 points.
Michigan shot 46.7 from field goal range and 42.9 from behind the arc. Nebraska had a 37.3 percentage from the field and was 3-of-15 from three.

Nebraska scoring drought, Michigan scoring explosion
Both teams started the game strong as they got up to an 11-10 start within the first five minutes. However, they each cooled off and didn’t score for four minutes. Mila Holloway was the first to score after a four-minute drought.
Nebraska didn’t score a field goal again until Markowski made one with 38 seconds left. The Huskers didn’t make a bucket for nearly six minutes.
Markowski scored 10 straight points for Nebraska over seven minutes. Prince and Petrie drained jumpers to start the game. Prince was the first player to score besides Markowski. She hit a jumper with 4:44 into the second quarter. Prince was the first Husker to score in the second quarter.

A homecoming fit for a queen: Dani Busboom Kelly returns to Nebraska
Prince had four points in the second quarter. Kendall Coley was the only other Husker to score. She drained the 3-pointer with 2:41 left in the half.
Michigan started the second on a 15-0 run. They outscored Nebraska 24-7 in the second quarter to take a 42-21 lead.
Syla Swords scored 10 points and was 3-of-3 in the second. The Wolverines shot 64.3 percent from the field in the second quarter. Nebraska was 3-of-16.
Huskers fight back in third but fall short
Nebraska dominated the third quarter like Michigan dominated the second.
The Huskers went on an 8-0 run in the first two minutes of the third quarter. Greta Kampschroeder was the first Wolverines to score, a 3-pointer at the top of the key. But Markowski responded with a contested bucket and the free throw.
The Huskers expanded their run to an 11-3 run over two and a half minutes. NU scored 16 points while the Wolverines added five in the first half of the third quarter.
After not scoring in the second, Markowski recorded seven points and six rebounds in the third.
Michigan’s shots started falling towards the end of the third quarter. They scored 11 points in the final 3:21. Nebraska outscored the Wolverines 21-16.
Kampschroeder nailed back-to-back 3-pointers within the first minute of the fourth quarter.
Michigan cruised to a 78-60 victory over Nebraska.
The Huskers return to PBA to take on Iowa on Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
