Minnesota deals blow to Nebraska's postseason chances with 67-65 triumph at PBA

Brennan Rigsby’s three-pointer in the final moments lifted Minnesota to a 67-65 triumph against Nebraska on Saturday in Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Nebraska had taken the lead, 65-64, on Juwan Gary’s offensive rebound and putback with four seconds remaining.
The Huskers rallied from a 19-point deficit with 15 1/2 minutes remaining in the game, but came up just short before a capacity crowd.
Nebraska falls to 17-12 overall and 7-11 in the Big Ten, with Saturday’s Quad 3 loss dealing a serious blow to the Huskers’ bid to make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Sixth-year head coach Fred Hoiberg’s team has dropped four of its last five games.
Minnesota improves to 15-14 and 7-11.
Gary and fellow senior Brice Williams scored 21 points apiece for the home team, while Rigsby led the visitors with 20 points, keyed by his 5-for-6 shooting from deep. He entered the game with 24% accuracy from three-point territory.

Minnesota enjoys strong first half
Nebraska was forced to regroup at halftime, as Minnesota went into the locker room leading 35-26.
The Gophers used a 10-0 run to surge to a 33-17 lead on Lu’Cye Patterson’s three-pointer with three minutes left before the break.
Rigsby, averaging only 4.3 points on the season, came off the bench to score 11 points in the first half. He buried both his three-point attempts.
All told, Minnesota was 4-for-8 from deep in the first half, while Nebraska was only 1-for-7. The Huskers, though, closed the first half with a 6-0 run to keep the game manageable entering the second half.
Next up for Nebraska is a game Tuesday night against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CST on Peacock.
