Nebraska AD Troy Dannen talks a possible move to Arrowhead for the 2025 opener and getting a Bud Crawford fight in Memorial Stadium
Nebraska’s 2025 season opener with Cincinnati may be on the move again.
The Bearcats initially moved the game to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. HuskerOnline confirmed on Friday that the wheels are in motion to move it to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. During his monthly radio show Monday, NU AD Troy Dannen confirmed that a move of the 2025 season opener seems likely, as well as a possible move to a Thursday night kickoff.

“There’s a lot of scuttle out there,” Dannen said of the 2025 season opener. “I would guess we will see something this next week about where and possibly when. I anticipate there’s going to be some changes.”
Dannen also thinks fans might know the football schedule dates for the 2025 Big Ten slate by this week.
“Three times in the last three weeks, I’ve heard seven to 10 days,” Dannen said. “I feel like it could happen this week.”
Dannen also talked more about the possibility of getting world championship boxer Bud Crawford to fight at Memorial Stadium.
This past weekend, Crawford even hinted on social media he would like to see it happen.
“Since Terence (posted on X), I have not talked to his representatives,” Dannen said. “Only a couple of fights in U.S. history have drawn around 90,000. This place is meant to break records. I have not talked to (Crawford), but we would love to get him in here.”
Dannen spoke with Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti again on Monday
Dannen does not want to get in the habit of doing this. However, he confirmed on Monday that he had spoken with Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti about some of the officiating calls made in Saturday’s Nebraska vs. USC game.
The no-call on the game’s final play was especially significant, as NU wide receiver Jahmal Banks appeared to be held, preventing him from going after Dylan Raiola’s pass in the corner of the end zone.
“We’ve had a couple of officiating interactions with the Big Ten this year, one at Ohio State,” Dannen said.
“I know better than to argue about judgment calls. The Big Ten issued a statement that they incorrectly administered the rule (at Ohio State).
“What happened on Saturday (at USC)…I’ll go back last week to the Utah/BYU game. In this game, the flag wasn’t thrown. Our concern and my concern is why? It’s a judgment call, but it seemed pretty egregious. How do we make things better? How does it not happen again?”

Dannen also made the point that sometimes a call or situation from the previous week might dictate how a play is officiated the next week. He said one week the focus was offensive pass interference, and the next week it was unsportsmanlike conduct. This week, it might have been not throwing a big pass interference call in a situation that might decide the game.
“Are we emphasizing things and overreacting to situations in the future?” Dannen questioned.
Quick hits
***Dannen also pointed out that he does not want head coach Matt Rhule to worry about talking to the Big Ten about officiating calls on Sunday and Monday.
“I want (the players) to know we will fight for them,” Dannen said. “I don’t want Matt fighting for them. I want him to worry about Wisconsin.”
***NU’s bowl-less streak dating back to 2016 is hard for Dannen to fathom, he said. Obviously, none of him or his people were around for it, but they want to see it end this year.
***Dannen said there will be no changes with football ticket prices at Memorial Stadium until after all the construction is completed.
***With a significant stadium project on the horizon, Dannen said getting to six wins is a major priority to give them some momentum heading into the off-season.
“I want to win six because we are going to start asking people for gifts,” Dannen said. “(The stadium project) will cost a lot of money.”
***During the Nebraska basketball team’s trip to Sioux Falls, Dannen said the hotel fire alarm was pulled at NU’s team hotel, keeping the Huskers up for three hours.
