Nebraska adds DB D'Andre Barnes to 2023 class
Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit defensive back D’Andre Barnes has committed and signed to Matt Rhule and the Huskers. Nebraska entered the picture and brought Barnes to Lincoln before technically offering the 6-foot-2 and 175-pound Barnes.
Barnes picked up an offer from the Huskers during the trip and added his name to the 2023 class bringing the total up to 28 commitments to go along with 11 transfers. Nebraska announced his signing on Wednesday morning.
Barnes played both wide receiver and defensive back at Regis Jesuit. On offense, he had 37 receptions for 785 yards and nine scores; on defense, he had 55 tackles, six interceptions, eight pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
Matt Rhule and his staff have been trying to add athleticism to the roster with the 2023 class. Barnes is the reigning 200-meter state champion in Colorado with a PR of 21.49 seconds and has also been timed in the 100-meter at 10.69.

Barnes joins defensive backs Dwight Bootle, Syncere Safeeullah, Rahmir Stewart and Ethan Nation in the 2023 class. Nebraska also added Florida transfer safety Corey Collier to their roster. Bootle, Safeeullah, and Collier are already enrolled in Lincoln and participating in team workouts.
BYU was possibly in a position to host Barnes the last weekend before signing day until Nebraska entered the picture. Barnes chose Nebraska over BYU, Wyoming, Air Force, Nevada, and Bowling Green offers.
