Nebraska Football Lands Commitment From 4-star Dl Malcolm Simpson Out Of Texas I Gbr

Nebraska has added defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson from Hitchcock (Texas) to the 2025 recruiting class. The Huskers hosted Simpson for an official visit starting on June 14. The Huskers offered Simpson in May when the Nebraska defensive line coach stopped by Simpson’s high school to talk to him.

“I have always been a big family guy,” Simpson said. “Family has each other’s back through it all. And I feel like Nebraska is my family. We have to stick together.”

That family vibe with Nebraska started in May when Nebraska came to Simpson’s high school. Coach Knighton went to the school to talk to Simpson and offered him during their meeting that day.

“Coach Knighton from Nebraska came to my school, we talked, and he offered me face-to-face,” Simpson said. “It was surprising to have a coach from Nebraska give me an offer personally. That has never happened before, and I really appreciated that.”

Nebraska sees a valuable role for Simpson on their defensive line. They feel like he could play several spots, and the Nebraska defensive line coach even sees some of himself in Simpson.

“He sees me as a player who has good potential,” Simpson said. “They see me moving around. He (Coach Knighton) told me that I reminded him of himself when he was in college.

“They like me playing the four, five, seven, and the line. I am going to have to get comfortable with playing a little bit of everything at the next level. I have no choice.”

On3 Scouting Report of Malcolm Simpson

Cody Bellaire of On3 provided this scouting report summary for Simpson in October of 2023:

“Aggressive interior defensive line prospect whose bend and movement skills allow him to slip by would-be blockers making him a consistent threat to opposing backfields. Excellent first step and burst off the line of scrimmage. Athleticism translates to the hardwood as he’s able to get up and throw down some impressive dunks for his size.

“Unverified size but listed at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds. Appears to have the frame and build in order to carry substantial weight throughout his frame. Should be able to add 30-40 pounds by the team he is a freshman in college. Will naturally get stronger and develop more power as he adds mass.

“Will develop stronger hand usage and striking ability as he develops at the next level. High upside prospect with highly sought-after athleticism and size for the position.”

Simpson is Nebraska’s 11th commitment in the 2025 class. The Huskers have added four commitments since TJ Lateef committed in mid-May. Nebraska is picking up some momentum heading into the last official visit weekend of June.
