Nebraska baseball drops sloppy game to Omaha, 11-9

Nebraska baseball fell to Omaha 11-9 on Wednesday night at Tal Anderson Field in a game marred by pitching woes and defensive miscues. The Huskers, now 12-17 on the season, issued 12 walks, hit three batters, and committed two errors in the loss.
The pivotal moment came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman J’Shawn Unger, making his collegiate debut, quickly recorded two outs before issuing a two-out walk. That free pass proved costly as Millard West product Drew Bonner launched a two-run homer to give the Mavericks the lead for good at 11-9.

Nebraska’s pitching staff struggled from the outset. Starter Carson Jasa lasted just two innings, surrendering three earned runs and issuing five walks. With a shorthanded bullpen, the Huskers cycled through eight more pitchers—none of whom recorded more than four outs—as pitching coach Rob Childress searched in vain for stability on the mound.
UNO finished with only eight hits but capitalized on Nebraska’s generosity. Despite being out-hit 16-8, the Mavericks came away with the win.
Offense shows signs of life
The lone bright spot for Nebraska was the performance at the plate. The Huskers doubled up the Mavericks in hits, showing signs of a lineup finally finding some rhythm.

Case Sanderson led the way, going 4-for-6 with an RBI. Tyler Stone and Max Buettenback each tallied three hits, with Buettenback blasting a three-run homer in the second inning to jump-start Nebraska’s offense.
Still, the offensive outburst couldn’t overcome a night defined by self-inflicted damage.
