Nebraska Baseball Falls to Bruins 11-3, Drop Second Straight Big Ten Series

The early-on struggles for Nebraska baseball reached an all-time low on Saturday as the Huskers lost their second straight Big Ten series. Nebraska (12-10, 1-4) dropped game two of the series to UCLA 11-3. NU lost Friday’s game in Los Angeles 5-2.
The Huskers jumped on the Bruins (14-8, 4-1) in the first inning with a two-out RBI double from Tyler Stone. Right-handed pitcher Ty Horn followed it up by striking out the side in order. From that point on, it was all Bruins.
Horn pitched four innings. He gave up six hits and six runs and struck out six batters. He dropped to 0-3 this season.
A two-out, three-run home run from AJ Salgadoin in the fourth inning gave UCLA its first lead, and they did not look back. UCLA led the fifth inning with a solo shot home run. They added five more runs in the inning, making it 9-1 UCLA and putting the game out of reach for the Huskers.
Struggles at the plate continue
The struggles at the plate continue for the Big Red. At one point, they were 0-16 at the plate with runners in scoring position over the series.

The Huskers only have four runs on the weekend, with three RBIs credited to Stone on two-out extra-base hits. Robby Bolin was the only Husker to record multiple hits, having three in game two. Max Buettenback, Stone, Dylan Carey, and Devin Nunez were the other Huskers to record base knocks.
Horn got off to a great start on the mound, but that did not last long. He struck out five Bruin hitters in throwing three scoreless innings to start the game before UCLA got to him with the three-run shot in the fourth. His final line was four innings pitched, allowing three earned runs and striking out six.
Nebraska will try to salvage the series on Sunday, sending lefty Jackson Brockett to the mound. The first pitch will be at 3 p.m. CT time. The game will be available on B1G+ as the Huskers try to avoid a 1-5 start in conference play.
