Nebraska baseball swept by UCLA, falls to 1-5 in conference play

Nebraska baseball (7-11, 1-5) continued its disappointing weekend and start to the season. On Sunday, the Huskers dropped the series finale to UCLA, 5-3, allowing the Bruins to complete the weekend sweep. Just two weekends into conference play, Nebraska finds itself behind the eight ball.
Brockett starts strong, bullpen falters
Senior left-hander Jackson Brockett was in control through four innings, allowing just one run on a solo home run before things unraveled. UCLA tied the game in the fifth after four consecutive batters reached base, forcing Brockett out of the game. Caleb Clark entered in relief and escaped the inning with the score knotted at 3-3.
However, Clark struggled in the sixth, surrendering two runs as the Bruins took a 5-3 lead. Senior right-hander Drew Christo entered with runners on second and third and one out, facing a potential blowout. He delivered two clutch outs to limit the damage and proceeded to retire eight straight UCLA batters, giving Nebraska a chance to mount a comeback.
Husker bats continue to struggle
Despite Christo’s efforts, Nebraska’s offense failed to capitalize. The Huskers struggled at the plate all weekend, with bright spots coming from Dylan Carey and Tyler Stone. Both have shown they can produce, but for Nebraska to turn the season around, the entire lineup needs to step up.

Pivotal week ahead for the Huskers
The road doesn’t get any easier for Nebraska, with five games on the schedule this week. The Huskers will face Pepperdine in back-to-back midweek games before a three-game series against USC.
A strong showing, particularly over the weekend, is crucial for Nebraska to climb back into the conference race. It remains to be seen whether changes will be made in the starting rotation. One possibility is redshirt freshman Carson Jasa taking over as the Friday night starter, with Ty and Brockett following, while Brett Sears or Jackson Walsh could be used in a midweek role.
First pitch for both games against Pepperdine is set for 5 p.m. CT, with coverage available on ESPN+.
