Nebraska, Busboom Kelly agree to a six-year contract
The terms of new Nebraska volleyball coach Dani Busboom Kelly’s six-year contract were released on Thursday.
Busboom Kelly will make $700,000 in 2025 and has a $25,000 raise built in each year, making a base pay $825,000 in the final year of the contract in 2031. Busboom Kelly made a base salary of $400,000 at Louisville before bonuses and incentives. In 2024, she made over $100,000 in bonus incentives on her contract with the Cardinals on top of her salary.

Retired head coach John Cook recently agreed to a new contract in June that ran through 2029. He was paid $825,000 this past year. He also received a $70,000 retention bonus this past July. Basketball coach Amy Williams remains NU’s highest-paid women’s sports coach, with a current salary of $950,000.
On Busboom Kelly’s contract, every time her team advances to the Final Four, an additional year would be added to the initial six-year term, along with a $25,000 base pay increase for the added year.
Busboom Kelley has several bonus and incentive clauses
Busboom Kelly also has several bonus incentives written into her contract. If her teams win at least a share of the Big Ten title, she’ll receive an additional $50,000. If Busboom Kelly is named the AVCA coach of the year, she will get another $100,000 bonus.

She also has another performance incentive: a $50,000 bonus for a Final Four appearance or a $100,000 bonus if the Huskers win the national championship.
Nebraska will also provide Busboom Kelly with $25,000 to cover moving expenses and three months of temporary housing during the transition.
On top of this, Busboom Kelly will be granted 10 private jet hours per year for personal usage, along with four tickets to Nebraska football and men’s and women’s basketball games.
Busboom Kelly’s contract carries a $2 million buyout/resignation clause through Jan. 31, 2026, and drops to $1 million in 2027, $500,000 in 2028, and $250,000 in 2029. Her deal has no buyout or resignation clause starting on Jan. 31, 2030.
