Nebraska defeats Wichita State 10-1 to kick off big week of baseball

Nebraska opened its week with a dominant 10-1 victory over Wichita State on Tuesday night. The Huskers’ big inning came in the fifth when they scored three runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Case Sanderson, Cael Frost and Devin Nunez all recorded singles in the frame, and a pair of Wichita State errors helped bring home the three runs.
Nebraska carried a 5-1 lead into the eighth, where the Huskers put the game out of reach with a five-run inning. Nunez powered the offense with three hits and five RBIs, while Cayden Brumbaugh reached base four times.

Jasa shines in career-best outing
The Huskers got a standout performance on the mound from redshirt freshman Carson Jasa. The right-hander went five innings, allowing no earned runs on just two hits while striking out eight Shocker batters.
Jasa’s performance comes at a critical time for Nebraska’s pitching staff after the team lost Friday night ace Mason McConnaughy for the season just over a week ago. His emergence could provide a much-needed boost for the rotation.
Jasa looked dominant from the start, working back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the first and second. The only trouble he faced came in the third, when he allowed a one-out double followed by a single to put runners on the corners. Jasa responded by striking out the next two batters to escape the jam.

Bullpen closes the door
The Nebraska bullpen held strong to secure the victory. Jasa handed the ball over in the sixth, and Grant Cleavinger allowed a solo home run to the first batter he faced but settled in from there. He pitched 1.2 innings before turning it over to Pryce Bender, Caleb Clark and Ryan Harrahill, who combined to close out the game.
With the loss of McConnaughy, the Huskers will need continued strong performances from their pitching depth moving forward.
Nebraska will be back in action Wednesday night for a rematch with Wichita State, looking to complete the sweep. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on BTN+.
