Nebraska had a specific path it had to follow to pull off its first victory at Mackey Arena on Sunday. That fell apart shortly after tip-off.
No. 20 Purdue put on an offensive clinic, shooting 61 from the field and setting an NU opponent record with 19 made 3-pointers. Meanwhile, the Huskers turned it over 17 times and finished minus 13 on the glass in a 104-68 blowout.
A 14-0 run within the game’s first 10 minutes put the Boilermakers up 24-7 lead out of the gate. That set the tone for the rest of the afternoon, as NU never got closer than 12 and trailed by as many as 37 before all was said and done.
Freshman C.J Cox led Purdue with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting while Braden Smith dished out 14 of his team’s 32 assists. By comparison, Nebraska had 15 assists as a team. The Boilermakers had more assists at halftime (13) than the Huskers had made field goals (12).

Connor Essegian led Nebraska with 17 points off the bench. Juwan Gary was the only other Husker in double figures with 10. Brice Williams, who came in tied for second in the Big Ten at 19.4 points per game, had nine points on just 2-of-8 shooting.
The Huskers will hope to get back on track when they return home to face Rutgers on Thursday night. That game will tip at 8 p.m. CT on FS1.
