Nebraska falls to Creighton 8-7 in series finale

Nebraska (24-25, 11-13) dropped an 8-7 decision to Creighton (32-13, 12-3) on Tuesday night at Haymarket Park, falling short in a dramatic late-inning comeback and surrendering the season series to the Bluejays.
The Huskers found themselves in an early hole, trailing 6-0 after just four innings. Creighton cleanup hitter Ben North delivered a crucial two-out, two-RBI single up the middle in the third to open the scoring. The following inning, the Bluejays added four more runs despite recording just one hit, capitalizing on three walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a costly throwing error by Husker pitcher Ryan Harrahill with the bases loaded.

Nebraska chipped away at the deficit, sparked by a solo home run from Joshua Overbeek to right-center. Gabe Swansen followed with a solo shot of his own, part of his multi-hit effort on the night. The Huskers clawed back to make it 6-4 heading into the ninth.
Creighton delivers knockout blow in ninth
The Bluejays answered in the top of the ninth, starting with a double down the left-field line from Nolan Sailors. A routine fly ball to right off the bat of Ben North turned into a double when Robby Bollin lost it in the lights. Senior right-hander Drew Christo managed to get a pop-up for the first out, but Matt Scherrman delivered the dagger with a two-RBI single up the middle, extending Creighton’s lead to 8-4.
Nebraska refused to go quietly. Dylan Carey reached on an error, followed by singles from Overbeek, Case Sanderson, and Riley Silva to load the bases with no outs. A pinch-hit walk from Devin Nunez cut the deficit to 8-6, bringing the tying run to second. Bollin then lifted a sacrifice fly to right, making it 8-7 as Silva tagged up to third.

The Huskers had the tying run 90 feet away with just one out, but Cayden Brumbaugh and Gabe Swansen both struck out, sealing the win for Creighton and stifling Nebraska’s rally.
Overbeek led the Huskers with a three-hit performance, including his solo home run. Swansen added two hits and a homer, but it wasn’t enough to overcome early mistakes.
