Nebraska falls to Kansas State, 12-8, in sloppy midweek loss

Another disappointing night unfolded for Nebraska baseball (10-14, 2-7) on Wednesday, as the Huskers fell 12-8 to Kansas State (15-8).
The night started with promise for the Big Red. In the top of the first, Nebraska got back-to-back hits from Case Sanderson and Cayden Brumbaugh, putting runners on second and third with no outs. However, the Huskers failed to capitalize.
Kansas State brought the infield in, and a groundout to second held the runners. A chopper to third led to Sanderson being thrown out at the plate, and the inning ended with a strikeout.
First inning collapse set the tone
The bottom half of the inning quickly unraveled. The Wildcats scored five runs, aided by three Nebraska errors, two wild pitches and a passed ball — one of the sloppiest innings Nebraska has played this season.
Head coach Will Bolt challenged a call at first base on what could have been a double play to end the inning. Replay confirmed not only was the runner at first safe, but Dylan Carey also failed to keep his foot on the bag at second, allowing everyone to reach safely.

Pitching struggles continue
Carson Jasa, hoping to build on recent momentum as a starter, lasted just one inning. He allowed four hits and eight total runs — though only three were earned. Jasa walked three and hit another batter before Nebraska was forced to use eight relievers the rest of the night.
Defense shows life, but RISP woes remain
Nebraska recorded 11 hits but went just 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position. The Huskers stranded 11 runners, while Kansas State left only three.
Sanderson and Cael Frost were bright spots. Sanderson went 4-for-5 with a home run, while Frost added a homer and a double, finishing 2-for-5.
Looking ahead
Nebraska will try to get back on track this weekend with a nonconference home series against a dominant Oregon State squad.
