Nebraska LB Luke Reimer named third-team All-Big Ten
The All-Big Ten teams and awards for defense and special teams were announced on Tuesday. Senior linebacker Luke Reimer was named third-team All-Big Ten by the media for Nebraska.
Seven other Husker defensive players were named honorable mention – defensive linemen Ty Robinson, Jimari Butler, Nash Hutmacher and defensive backs Omar Brown, Isaac Gifford, Tommi Hill and Quinton Newsome.
NU has not had a player make an All-Big Ten first-team on defense since DE Randy Gregory in 2014.

Reimer earns all-conference recognition for the third year in a row
Nebraska’s defense had statistically one of its best seasons since joining the Big Ten, giving up just 303.5 yards and 18.3 points per game. On the ground, the Blackshirts only allowed 92.9 rushing yards per game.
These three marks were the best we’ve seen at NU since 2010. The Huskers held eight of 12 opponents to under 14 points, and only one running back had over 100 yards on Nebraska all season.
However, because of NU’s 5-7 record, they will get very little recognition in the record books for their defensive play in 2023.
Only Reimer made third-team, as he finished with 48 tackles in 10 games, to go along with five sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.

Reimer was All-Big Ten honorable mention in both 2021 and 2022. He finished his Husker career third on the school’s all-time tackles list with 293 stops.
The “Big Three” dominate All-Big Ten defensive teams
This should come as no surprise, but the “Big Three” of Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State dominated the All-Big Ten defensive teams.
Seven of the 11 spots by the media and coaches were comprised by Wolverines, Buckeyes and Nittany Lions.
Illinois defensive lineman Jer’Zhan Newton was named the league’s defensive player and defensive lineman of the year.
Iowa’s Cooper Dejean was named the Big Ten’s top defensive back and the return specialist of the year, beating out Penn State’s Deaquen Hardy for the honor.
Northwestern’s David Braun was named Big Ten coach of the year by both the media and coaches.
