Nebraska libero Rodriguez named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Nebraska volleyball libero Lexi Rodriguez is the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week. She is the first Husker to receive a weekly Big Ten honor this season.

Rodriguez had a season-high 25 digs against Michigan on Saturday and 11 digs against Michigan State on Thursday. She had three aces and 32 perfect total reception attempts over both games. She averaged 6 digs per set during both of Nebraska’s sweeps this season.
Husker Head Coach John Cook said that Rodriguez was “phenomenal” on Saturday against Michigan. The libero had over half of Nebraska volleyball’s 47 digs on Saturday against the top offense in the league.

The 2021 AVCA National Freshman of the Year has a team-high 219 digs this season, 62 assists and 13 service aces. She has served seven of her aces against Big Ten opponents.
Rodriguez ranks second in the Big Ten with 4.29 digs per set, behind Iowa’s Mari Hinkle.
Wisconsin freshman libero Gülce Güçtekin is the other Co-Defensive Player of the Week and the Freshman of the Week after registering 4.57 digs and 0.57 service aces per set in the Badgers wins over Indiana and No. 5 Purdue.
Since Purdue suffered its first loss of the season, Nebraska is now the only undefeated Big Ten team in conference matches and leads the conference.

Huskers locked in at No. 3
Nebraska volleyball (14-1, 6-0) is locked in at No. 3 in the AVCA coaches poll. They have been in the third spot since Sept. 19. The top three teams are still Texas, Louisville and Nebraska. They will most likely stay the same until one team losses.
The Huskers most recently swept Michigan State and No. 24 Michigan on Thursday and Saturday. Now, the Wolverines are tied at No. 24 with UCF. Nebraska hit a combined .342 with 19 hitting errors. They held Michigan State and Michigan to hit .114 with 66 total kills.

Five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 10 of the AVCA coaches poll this week. Along with Nebraska volleyball, Wisconsin (5), Ohio State (6), Purdue (9) and Minnesota (10) made the cut.
The Huskers play No. 14 Penn State, who is 14-3 and 3-3 in the conference, on Friday, Oct. 14. The Nittany Lions swept Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 9 but fell to No. 6 Ohio State in a five-set battle in Columbus two days prior.
Nebraska and Penn State battle at 7:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network in the Bob Devaney Center.
