Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, Nebraska will have some shoes to fill in its frontcourt.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg and Co. hope to do so in a big way after locking in an official visit with 2024 center Trent Burns out of Houston (Texas) PSAT Academy.

The 7-foot-2 three-star prospect will be in Lincoln for the weekend of Sept. 29-Oct. 1. The NU football team is set to host Michigan on that Saturday, Sept. 30.

Rated No. 120 in the On3 Industry rankings, Burns has already taken officials to Purdue and Rice. He also locked in a visit to Missouri for the weekend of Sept. 1.

Burns’ recruiting stock has taken off this summer, landing other offers from Texas A&M, Stanford, Penn State, Ohio State, Xavier, and more.

Burns’ size and versatility have shined during the AAU season

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, who first reported the upcoming Nebraska visit, Burns blends his size with versatility on both ends.

“He can stretch the floor and consistently knock down the catch-and-shoot three-pointer,” Tipton wrote.

On3’s Jamie Shaw echoed that sentiment after evaluating Burns earlier this spring.

“It starts with the 7-foot-2 frame, but watching him play, he moves well, showing fluidity, and he has touch that extends beyond the three-point arc off the catch,” Shaw wrote. “He is not there yet, but monitor how he continues to progress. A lot of natural tools to like.”

Burns is also considering possible officials to Ohio State and Penn State, and he’s also taken an unofficial to Texas A&M. While he’s still evaluating his options, Burns has said he doesn’t want to draw out his recruitment too long.

“I don’t want to wait too long,” Burns told On3. “I want to get it done.”
